The Campaign Initiative
Piphob Koun Chheur is a Tree Nursery established in late 2015 and produced many kinds of tree seedlings from fruit trees including mangoes, Logan, coconuts, etc. to timber and rosewood tree species including Kranhougn, Beng, Thnong, Neang Nuon, etc. and located in Vor Yeav village, Trapeang Russey commune, Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province, just approximately a 100 km from Siem Reap.
In early 2018, four forest communities namely Khmom Trakor Tlok Russey, Trapeang Rong, Trapeang Kbal Kmoach and Ou Kla Dek in surrounding areas in Kampong Thom have approached Piphob Koun Chheur for help planting trees in their community forest which has already been severely degraded due to illegal logging and land conversion to agriculture.
Trees, especially rosewood species including Kranhoung (Dalbergia Cochinchinensis Pierre), Beng (Afzelia Xylocarpa (Kurz) Craib), Thnong (Pterocarpus Macrocarpus Kurz), and Neang Nuon (Dalbergia Bariensis Pierre) are cutting down every day and become the endangered species. There is almost no shade to sit around. If this trend continues, the forest area will be gone and the young generation will no longer see them. Seeing this big problem, the four communities put in their request for Piphob Koun Chheur to help raising awareness and fund support to this tree planting initiative.
The four communities and Piphob Koun Chheur have agreed to initiate a One Million Tree Planting Campaign. The Campaign gained strong support and permission from local authorities till Provincial Governor of Kampong Thom.
